West Norfolk Aviation Society comprises a group of aviation enthusiasts who hold regular monthly meetings, at Methwold Social Club in West Norfolk, to share their interests in aviation and aviation related topics.
Within the ranks of West Norfolk Aviation Society you will find all levels of aviation enthusiasts, from youngsters with a keen interest in aviation to old seasoned hands with many years experience as engineers, flight crew, instructors and lecturers, both civilian and military.
Meetings are generally held on the first Tuesday of the month. All aviation enthusiasts are welcome.
West Norfolk Aviation Society was formed in 1991 by Aviation History students at the end of an adult education course on airfield history, held at Methwold High School. The West Norfolk Aviation Society began a programme of monthly meetings on aviation related topics.
During the first year, West Norfolk Aviation Society members visited the Newark Air Museum, the Mosquito Museum at Salisbury Hall and the Aces High Museum at North Weald.
Some of our early speakers at WNAS included Derek Edwards who gave us a presentation based on aerial photography in Norfolk and S/L Crowley who spoke on the first Gulf War.
Our President Wing Commander Ken Wallis is a regular attendee and his talks on Gyrocopters and on his amazing wartime exploits are always very well attended.
Others have spoken on Human Powered Flight, Foot Launched Aircraft, Air Accident Investigation and the Russian Air Force.
The Falkland Islands conflict was a recent topic. The talk, given by a crew member on that raid, covered the amazingly demanding bombing of Port Stanley by an Avro Vulcan.
West Norfolk Aviation Society meets most months, at the social club in Methwold, (the entrance is next to the George Pub in the village centre).
WNAS meetings are generally on the first Tuesday of the month. Check our calendar page for up to date information on dates and events.
Meetings start at 7.30 pm in the comfortable surrounds of the Methwold Social Club. The club bar is available to us before and after WNAS meetings, as well as during our mid evening break.
Our external visits are generally made during the summer months.
West Norfolk Aviation Society members come from a wide range of backgrounds; military and civilian aircrew, engineers, technicians, model makers, photographers, students and interested amateurs. Anyone with an interest in aviation is always made welcome.
New members are always welcome; each one adds to our fund of knowledge and interest. The only qualification is that you have an interest in aviation related matters, at any level.
Interested? Then we look forward to welcoming you to our next meeting!
